A Metered Dosage Inhaler(MDI) is a device that delivers a precise amount of medication in the form of a mist. Incorrect MDI use has a significant impact on the therapeutic utility of the medication and the out comes of respiratory conditions.
The objective of the study was to assess clients' level of knowledge and practice regarding the use of metered dose inhaler, and to find the association between clients' knowledge regarding the use of metered dose inhaler and selected socio-demographic variables. 
This was a cross-sectional study of clients with respiratory conditions who were prescribed MDI. The knowledge of using MDI was evaluated using a structured interview schedule and the practice of using MDI was evaluated using a checklist by the WHO Guide to Good Prescribing.
This study included 126 clients (84 COPD, 25 Asthma, and 17 Post COVID 19) with mean age of 4.77 ± 1.160 SD. Most of them (70.6%) used MDI for 1-5 years. Half of the clients (52%) had a satisfactory level of knowledge about MDI use. Almost all of the clients (96.8 %) from a total of 94 observations used the inhaler incorrectly. The majority of clients (97.9%) followed the step to place the lips tightly around the mouthpiece. Whereas, coughing up as much sputum as possible(21.3 %) was the least followed step. Good knowledge was significantly associated with gender(p=.001).
Knowledge regarding use of MDI is in satisfactory level among clients having respiratory conditions.However,only a small percentage of the MDI users utilize the MDI device correctly. As a result, skill-based self-care management techniques for MDI use must be implemented among clients, with a focus on competence related correct MDI technique. It is vital to deliver skill-based health education to patients and their families about proper MDI use.
