520 | _aABSTRACT: The STIs and HIV/AIDS are endemic throughout the world, especially in tropical and developing countries. The objective of the study is to assess the perception and practice on STI's/HIV/AIDS among the waitress of cabin restaurant. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in Bhaktapur area. For the purpose of this study 70 waitresses were selected by purposive sampling technique. The study shows that many of the respondents (i.e. 30%) were of age group 30 to 34 yrs and 45.7% were Dalits. Majority of the respondents (54.3%) earned between Rs 5000 to Rs 6500 per month. Regarding knowledge about STIs, majority (77.1%) of the respondents had knowledge and among them most was literate. Majority of the respondents answer syphilis is one of the forms of STIs (i.e. 75.9%) and only 35.19 per cent of the respondents knew HIV/AIDS is also one of the forms of STIs. Majority of the respondents (90%) had knowledge regarding HIV/AIDS. Regarding source of information about STIs and HIV/AIDS, 93.7 per cent of the respondents got information through radio. . Majority of the respondents answered avoidance of multiple sexual relationship as one of the preventive measures of STIs and HIV/AIDS (i.e. 64.8%) and 22.2 per cent of the respondents answered that they don't know about any preventive measures. About 41 per cent of the respondents answered HIV/AIDS as one of the complications of STIs. Though most of the respondents had knowledge regarding condom (i.e. 94.1%) but only 28.6% of the respondents reported practice of use of condom during sexual intercourse with client. Regarding working environment, most of the respondents reported there was change in behavior of a guest after having alcohol (i.e. 98.6%). Almost all the guest requested for the sexual intercourse and 95.7 per cent of the respondents accept such request. Majority of the respondents (i.e. 70.1%) kept unprotected sexual relationship and 82.9 per cent responded that guest doesn't want to use condom as a reason for keeping unprotected sexual relationship. The studies showed that basic knowledge of STI and HIV/AIDS were prevalent among the waitress of cabin restaurants but their behavior and practice is not according to the knowledge. | ||
