Description
Summary:SUMMARY: The topic of the research is "KAP in use of ORS among mothers having children below 5 years of age in Topgachhi VDC of Jhapa district". These studies assess the KAP in the use of ORS among above mentioned target group. Over the past years epidemiological studies have shown that the KAP in use of ORS had direct relation to management of diarrhea less than 5years of age children by their mothers. Mothers having less knowledge and wrong practices and attitude about it are putting their children life in danger when suffered from Diarrhoeal disease. Mothers having children below 5 years of age are selected by non probability sampling.. The collected raw data are managed with necessary backup of SPSS software. The study shows 77.6% of respondents (mother) were in age group less than 30 years. Similarly in the current study 63.7% (191 out of 300) of respondents have female children under 5years of age. 84% of respondents (mother) are employed with Agriculture and only 3.7% mothers stay as house wife. Some mothers 5.7% (17 out of 300) do labor work on agriculture as they don't have sufficient land for themselves. In the same way 6% of mothers are doing Business and only 0.7% is continuing their family business of tailoring. In the same way as findings of the current research only 26.6% of the respondents are illiterate and remaining is literate. 100% of the respondents have heard about ORS. Most of the mothers have ideas about its benefits. Around 92 % of the mothers know ORS stops diarrhea. This shows more than 90% of mothers have right knowledge about ORS. All the respondents have heard about diarrhea. 51.3% of respondents get help from FCHVs and remaining seek 48.7% are advised or helped by Family members or neighbors. Around 70% of mothers get ORS from FCHV, 24% of mothers get it from SHP or HP. 6% of them are getting it from Private clinics and 92% of them get it for free whereas remaining 8 % pay less than Rs 15 to get it. Similarly all the respondents are washing their hands before ORS preparation and also utensils, which they know are for more prevention. This shows all respondents have the knowledge to wash hands before its preparation, Around 98% (293 out of 300) know the correct way of preparation whereas only 2% have wrong practices on the preparation of ORS. Only 46% of the respondents continued breastfeeding during diarrhea. A majority of 85% used toilet in this research and for those who don't have toilet majority go to river side for the exretion. More than 80% of respondents know the cause of diarrhea as well as more than 80% knows it's preventable. Zinc supplementation is used by only 26% of respondents for diarrhea. Finally the research concludes majority of the respondents (mothers) of Topgachhi VDC have positive knowledge, attitude and practice about ORS. Although some mothers with low educational level don't have the correct practice, FCHVs are always ready to support them. Thus it can be concluded as "positive attitude from FCHVs in the VDC has drastically changed the scenario created by the fatal diarrhea, by providing ORS and needed help to mothers"
