Due to lack of knowledge and lack of resources adolescents are facing problems. Unsafe abortion is a persistent and preventable pandemic. A simple descriptive study was carried out to find out the knowledge regarding unsafe abortion among adolescents students in Tilingatar Higher Secondary School, Dhapasi, Kathmandu and in Little Angels College of Higher Study Hattiban, Lalitpur. The population of the study comprised of Adolescents students of class 11 & 12 of both schools. Non-probability, purposive sampling technique was used and self administrative questionnaire was adopted for data collection. The ethical approval was taken from Nepal Health Research Council, Ref no; 1035 on 12 March 2014. The data were collected on the month of July 10th and 11th of 2014 in Little Angels College and on the month of July17th and 18th of 2014 in Tilingatar Higher secondary school and data holding and handling was accomplished through SPSS twenty version and then analyzed in simple descriptive as well as inferential statistic. Just more than half (52.2% ) of the respondents were male and near about half (47.8%) of respondents were female. The respondents from grade 11 and 12 were 49.2% and 50.8% respectively and all most all respondents (97.8%) were unmarried. The study reveals that among 228 respondents, only (34.2%) them had understood the meaning of unsafe abortion. Majority of respondents (78.5%) had inadequate knowledge and only less than one quarter respondents (21.5%) had adequate knowledge of questions regarding the unsafe abortion . The study had also shown that there is no significant association between Gender, Marital status, Educational level and level of knowledge on unsafe abortion ( p > 0.05) but holds a significant association between caste and Religion ( p < 0.05) Depending upon this study we can conclude that there is lack of knowledge regarding abortion, safe abortion services, legalization of abortion , unsafe abortion and itsconsequences among adolescent students of urban area.
