There is rapidly increasing demand for nurses in gerontology care with increase in elderly population. The nurses should be well qualified with knowledge and should have positive attitude regarding elderly care. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to find out the attitude of nurse's towards the care of elderly. All the 106 nurses who were working in Alka Hospital, Lalitpur were included in the study. The Kogan's Attitudes toward Elderly People Scale was used to collect data. The obtained information was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and chi-square. The study revealed that exactly half of the respondents (50%) had positive attitude towards the care of elderly with mean attitude 104.47±7.75 out of total 170. Majority of the respondents (89.6%) had moderate knowledge followed by good knowledge (6.6%) and only 3.8% had low knowledge on aging. Studied socio-demographic variables and knowledge on aging were not significantly associated with attitude level. However, a significant association was found between training on geriatric care with level of attitude towards the care of elderly (p=0.038). Based on the findings it is concluded that although most of the nurses had moderate knowledge on aging, only half of them held a positive attitude towards the care of elderly people while the other half had neutral attitude. So, to improve the nurses' attitude various training workshops for nurses can be conducted to increase awareness in role of nurse to provide care for elderly people.
