Although longevity has increased on average, the quality of life for those living in latter stage of their lives has become a matter of grave concern. Nucleation of the family, and migration of the nation's young blood to the foreign countries has increased the rate of elderly people shifting to the old age homes. Recent research has suggested that there is a significant difference on the quality of life of elderly living in old age home and in a community setting. So, through this study, the author has attempted to assess the different domains that define the quality of life for an individual and find out the association of quality of life with selected socio-demographic variables. A descriptive cross-sectional study was used for this study. A total of 88 elderly people residing in PashupatiBridashram were selected by using non-probability purposive sampling. The data was collected by using semi-structured interview schedule. Data was analyzed by using SPSS version 20 and analyzed by using descriptive inferential statistics. According to the study findings, mean age of the elderly was 75.98 ± 8.74 years, where the highest proportion (44.3%) of the respondents had low QOL in physical domain and most (75%) of them had low QOL in social domain. Likewise, 43.2% of the elderly had high QOL in psychological domain, and 48.9% of them had high QOL in environmental domain. Here, majority (60.2%) of them had moderate QOL. There was no significant association between selected socio-demographic variables and QOL. Based on the findings of the study, it can be concluded that among all the four domains of QOL, physical and social domain were a matter of primary concern. Therefore, there is a need to take appropriate actions by the concerned authorities to improve their physical health and encourage social activities to foster the social relationship among elderly citizens. | ||
