Ninety percent of the world fatalities on the road occur in low and middle income countries have approximately half of the world vehicle. RTA is one among the top five causes of morbidity and mortality in south -east Asian countries including Nepal. The maincauses of road traffic accident are narrow and poor road condition, driver negligence, random road side parking, over speed, and do not follow the traffic rules etc. risk factors of road traffic accident are sociodemographic factors, driver's factors, vehicles factors, and environment factors. Objectives of this study wasto identify the epidemiological study of road traffic accidents cases attending trauma center,Kathmandu. Methodology:Thecross-sectional descriptivestudy was performed in tertiary care hospital trauma center, Kathmandu. The study participants had all road traffic accident cases coming to emergency department and Ortho ward. The study period was April 2019 to December 2019. The study variables wereDemographic factors, vehicular factors, Drivers factors and environmental factors and time factors. (descriptive analysis). Results: In studied occurrences most of them have been adult males 192 (71.9%) and 31-45 years of age 140 (52.4%). Most common time length of incidence of RTA was once 8 AM to 16 PM 152(56.9%), and most common cause of RTA in accordance to kind of vehicle used to be motor cycle/scooter (Two wheelers) 174(65. 2%).The RTA cases according to place of incidence more common on inside of Kathmandu 155(58.1%). RTA instances according to time taken to reach medical institution were much less than 30 minutes in more of the cases 149(55.8%). The most common ethnicity was janajati and Brahmin and Hindu religions was most common sufferer of road traffic accident. Conclusion:Being in younger age group, male gender, day time the driving habits, speed, not obeying the traffic rules and regulations, slipper road, narrow road and muddy road and environmental factors were the major causes of road traffic accident. The government should enforce the strong laws in control of road traffic accident.
