Care of these children, require more attention and longer duration of care compared to the care of normal children. Hence the objective of the study was to find out the burden of care among mothers having children with Down Syndrome. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out at Down Syndrome Society Nepal. Purposive sampling technique was adopted. The Modified Caregiver strain Index (MCSI) structured interview questionnaire was administered to the 96 mothers having children with Down Syndrome attending Down Syndrome society Nepal, Kathmandu. The data was collected within six weeks from 14th June to 1st August 2021. The obtained data was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Majority 77.1% of the mothers included in the study had high level of burden of care. Burden of care was significantly associate with the delivery age (p= 0.008). Majority of the mothers (89.6%) involved in the study were always overwhelmed their children's conditions. Nearly half of the mothers (53%) financially strained by care giving. Half of the (57.3%) have been work adjustment s and 60.4% of mothers always have been emotional adjustments. The study concluded that mothers having children with down syndrome tend to have high level of burden of care and it is associated with the age at delivery. Therefore, health care providers including concern authority are recommended to conduct awareness programme to reduce care giver's burden including preventive measures of down syndrome. | ||
