520 |a ABSTRACT: This small-scale study on "visitors' Perception towards Nurses' Communication and Attitude" had conducted in different wards of TUTH from 2063-02-17 to 2063 -03-09 in order to find out the visitor perception and the areas where patients and visitors need communication and identify hindering factors in communication. This study was descriptive in nature .In this study ,researcher collected data by using simple random sampling method(lottery method) interviewing from 50 visitors of male medical , male surgical and orthopedic wards who had stayed at least 2 days in hospital caring their patient. The collected data analyzed and interpreted according to frequency, distribution / percentage and shown in pie chart, bar diagrams and tables. The results of the study revealed that the majority of respondents were from age group 21-30 years (Mean age/S.D.=24.9±7.24). The majority were male (Male/Female ratio=1.94) and majority were educated. Further result showed that only 25(50 %) and 19(38%) of respondents got information about ward and rules and regulation of hospital respectively. 40 (80%) expressed that nursing service in relation to communication and attitude was good. Only 14(28%) of respondents got explanation about patient's disease and health whereas 13 (26 %) of respondents got explanation after being asked. Only 35 (70 %) of respondents got explanation before doing any procedure. Only15 (30 %) respondents felt unease to communicate. Majority expressed that nurses do not show rigidity, superiority and nurses took prompt response and give attention towards patient problem. So that it concluded that, there was still inadequacy in providing explanation to visitors about ward and rules / regulation. Moreover, there were some hindering factors and barriers in communication in between nurses and visitors such as lack of staff, due to busy, female staff, language problem, tension, noise and new place, many visitors and unknown to rules and regulation of hospital. The study also highlighted the major areas where need more attention and expansion of nursing care in meeting communication ii needs. The nurses seemed to be less involved in providing good communication. So it can recommended that the cause of their under participation should be inquired and in service education should be provided to staff about patient's rights, communication skills to motivate them to be active health educator.
