Summary:ABSTRACT: This study was the cross sectional study carried out in Birat Jute Mill", Biratnagar of Nepal. The objective of the study was to identify the knowledge and practice regarding occupational health hazards and safety measures among the workers currently working in Birat Jute Mill, Biratnagar. Research question was "What was the knowledge and practice regarding occupational health hazards and safety measures among the workers currently working in Birat Jute Mill, Biratnagar?" 33% of the total population was taken in sample size following purposive sampling technique. So, 173 out of 520 workers were interviewed from all division excluding staff in the data collection period and knowledge and practice of the workers regarding occupational health hazard and safety measures Majority of the workers were Disadvantaged non-dalit Terai caste group with 40-50 age groups. More than one third (36.40%) workers were illiterate. Majority (75.1%) of workers had heard about occupational health hazards and safety measures. Majority of the workers (90.17%) had need to improve knowledge regarding main cause that affect in their working condition, they were aware only about one main causes(environmental factor) that affect in their working condition. Similarly, 6.94% and 2.89% workers had satisfactory and good knowledge respectively; they were aware about two types (environmental and health facilities factor) of and three to four type (environmental, health facilities, use of safe devices and lack of awareness program) main causes that affect in their working condition respectively. Similarly, 75.7% had knowledge about the necessity of periodic health examination and 76.3% workers had knowledge about the necessity of wearing safety measures. 81.5% had knowledge about the necessity of the primary health care services in the working condition. 54.3% workers had practice of using safety devices, Majority of the workers (67.1%) had taken 7 to 15 days training about their duties, and 65.9% had practice of visiting health institution regularly for health check up. From the study it can be concluded that all most majority of the workers had (58.95%) had satisfactory knowledge, they had given, 26.03% had good knowledge and 15.02% had need to improve knowledge. Majority (37.57%) of the worker had satisfactory practice of using safety measures. Similarly, 28.90%, and 25.43% workers had good practice and need to improve practice of following safety measures respectively. Remaining 8% had no any practice of following safety measures.
