Nutrition is one of the key elements of primary health care and a major determinant of good public health. This cross sectional study was conducted to find out the role of Nutritional Rehabilitation Home (NRH) in regaining the nutritional status of all malnourished children who were admitted there and also to analyze the change in knowledge of the children's mothers on nutrition and child feeding practice after coming to NRH. The study was completed within 3 months. Study area was selected purposively for the study purpose. The sample size was small (with all 25 children admitted in NRH. at the time of investigation). The study revealed an impressive result showing (76%) of the child's weight was increased by less than kg, and (20%) of the child's weight was found to be increased by more than 1 kg as a result of all the nutritional care and attention they got in NRH during their 7-35 days of stay. The study showed (68 percent) of the respondents had no idea about the relationship of food with growth and development of child before coming to NRH. Similarly (68 percent) of the child's mother were unknown about the necessity of nutritious food to their children. In the investigation (100%) mothers were found to know the importance of Colostrum milk. Majority of the numbers (76%) said they feed their child for 2 years with breast milk. When the mothers were asked about their past knowledge on when they should give the supplementary food to their child, majority (60 percent) said between 6-12 months. The study found (20%) of the mothers had satisfactory learning about the things they were taught in NRH on nutrition and child feeding, (64%) had good learning and remaining (16%) had excellent learning on all aspects of nutrition, child care and child feeding. NRH plays a very important role in restoring the child's nutritional status and is helping in transforming the knowledge and practice of the child's mothers regarding nutrition and child feeding, hygiene and sanitation. Such centers need to be expanded to all districts in appropriate numbers so as to address child malnutrition.
