According to another study conducted in 1988 the importation of drug was Rs.385 million. Subsequent study in 1992 showed drugs consumption worth Rs.1532 million (sales value). At present there are about 11,000 drug retailers and wholesalers in the country. Though the pharmaceutical industries started in seventies, increase of industries began in the eighties. At present, there are about 35 pharmaceutical industries in operation in Nepal. Quantification of drugs is normally appropriate for forecasting large scale procurement, estimating budget requirements, forecasting new programs, forecasting for assistance projects, estimating drug requirements in emergency relief situation. Drugs are one of the important components in the delivery of health care. For effective drug management a proper selection, quantification, procurement, distribution and use are important.
