A descriptive study was conducted to identify patient knowledge regarding self - care on diabetic. Diabetes is a chronic health problem, which requires self-management behaviors. Self-care is the crucial element to prevent from risk of development of deterioration effects of diabetes. The main purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge regarding self-care among diabetic patients in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. There was using a non-probability purposive sampling technique for data collection. The period of this study was four weeks; the data were collected considering the objective using close ended and open-ended questionnaire. Findings shows majority respondents are in the age group of 31-40 years, male and female ratio is 2.3:1, and 80% are educated, and around half of respondents have less than 5 years of disease experience.92% of respondents have knowledge about diabetic diet, 80%of respondents have knowledge about taking fruits and 48% of respondents have knowledge of taking food in regular interval .88% of respondents have knowledge about avoidance of fasting and 80%of respondents have knowledge about sing and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Majority respondents have knowledge about dietician consult, exercise necessary, foot care, nail cutting. Most of the respondents doesn't have knowledge about insulin and it's administration but 66% of respondents have knowledge about time of insulin administration.76% respondents have knowledge about taking precaution to prevent injury to foot and all respondents are using nail cutter for nail cutting.2/3 respondents have knowledge that diabetes is controlled by maintaining blood sugar level. Majority of respondents have knowledge to prefer chapatti and 14% of respondents have knowledge of eating fruits less than one/day.50percentage of respondents have knowledge about carrying identification card. Half of respondents do not have knowledge about duration of exercise and 2/3 of respondents have knowledge of wearing soft shoes .Although majority respondents have knowledge that foots should be checked after walking. Almost all respondents have knowledge about avoidance of tobaccos and drinking. In conclusion, majority of respondents have knowledge regarding self-care for diabetic control.
