Job satisfaction among graduate nurse faculty in Nepal.

Online resources: Summary: ABSTRACT: Background: Job satisfaction among nursing faculty is important in any organization for the overall wellbeing of the faculties as well as the organizations. Job satisfaction leads to improved work performance and the productivity of the organization. The productivity in nursing education is about the production of the nursing personnel whose action is directly related with the health condition of the patients at national and international level. The aim of this study is to examine the factors associated with job satisfaction among graduate nurse faculty. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted among the nursing faculties who had been teaching nursing students at least for one year in the respective organizations. Information related to job satisfaction was collected by using standard job satisfaction survey questionnaire by online survey. After a pre-testing on 30 faculties, the link of the questionnaire was sent via e-mail to 357 nursing faculties working in 39 institutions under 7 Universities. The respondents were followed up and reminded regularly via phone calls and e-mails by the investigators. Data analysis was carried out with SPSS version 16 software. Analysis was done by using binary logistic regression. At first univariate logistic regression analysis was done to identify the potential predictors and then multivariate analysis was done to identify the significant predictors of nursing faculties' job satisfaction. Adjusted odds ratio was calculated and significance was considered at p ≤ 0.05 at CI 95%. Conclusion: The operating conditions might be restructured and the payment to the nursing faculties can be revaluate. The organogram might be restructured so that there is involvement of nursing faculties in decision making position. Rules and regulations might be restructures and job related to nursing faculties and students be made more efficient by making rules it flexible under conditions. Moreover, the administrator especially the organizations, nursing manager might include a participatory management in decision making in an organization/ institutions/department relating to faculties and students issues. In addition the teaching learning resources like reference books which are vital to teachers and students might be added in the nursing schools.
