Assessment of adoption problems of family planning means: A case study of Jhojhikataiya VDC of Dhanusha district.

Online resources: Summary: ABSTRACT: Miss Ambika Bhattatai has completed a dissertation for the partial fulfillment of the Degree Arts in Sociology on " Assessment of Adoption problems of family planning means, a case study of Jhojhikektaiya VDC of Dhanusha District of Nepal" under the supervision of Mr. Lok Raj Pandey, faculty member of Department of Sociology \ Anthropology Patan Multiple Campus, Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. The main objective of the study was to assess the adoption problems of family planning means in Jhojhikataiya VDC of Dhanusha District. Under this main objective the research addressed the following three key questions. To what extent the knowledge, attitude and practice of family planning are existing in the study area? To what extent the Maithili Women are facing the adoption problems of family planning in means? How are the roles of NGO/INGOs and other agency to aware about family planning in the study area? A descriptive as well as exploratory method was used for the study to understand the context of adoption problems of family planning means, the researcher hold semi structured interview with questionnaire of open and close question with respondents and key informants. The study reveled that the use of family planning has greatly influenced by educational status. Among the educated respondents 70 percents found adopted Family planning means. Likewise, it had showed that women who had knowledge about family planning had relatively higher in the use of family planning means. The study showed that 44.44 percents of respondents were found using FP means currently. In spite of low acceptance, regarding to knowledge, they had positive attitude towards family planning. Because majorities of the respondents prefer birth spacing and small family size. Study found that respondents who had knowledge of contraceptive but not using any method, because of longing for more children, unmatched method, not needed of family planning means immediately. The research concluded that the respondents who were not user of FP means, some of them reported some problems extended as rumours in their community, so they did not prefer to use FP means. Some of them were not needed. Among ever users and current users of temporary means such as depo and pills reported some side effects - heavy bleeding, spot bleeding, irregular menstrual cycle, amenorrhoea (stop means) and headache were main complains by them. FPAN's role was very positive in that community. Its main role was very positive in that community. It main role was to strengthen capabilities of women in informed and autonomous decision in regarding to FP (RH). 28.57 percents of respondents directly aware about FP by local health personnel and 58.33 percents of the respondents were aware by their friends and neighbours. They were the FRHVs of FPAN.
