Online resources: Summary: ABSTRACT: Patient satisfaction is an increasing important issue both in evaluation and shaping of health care, it should be carried out routinely in all aspects of health care to improve the quality of health services. The study titled "Perception of Quality Nursing Care among Nurses and Patients" was conducted in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) to assess how patient perceived the quality nursing care provided to them during hospitalization and how nurses perceived the quality nursing care they are providing to hospitalized patients. This is probably the first study in TUTH that has asked hospitalized patients about specific aspects of nursing care and to explore the real perception of patients regarding quality nursing care provided by hospital through nursing staffs, and perception of those staffs who were involved in patient care. A total number of fifty patients were selected for study sample by using non probability purposive sampling technique and fifty nurses were selected through simple random sampling technique. Data collection was done by interview from patients and self administered structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from the nurses. Data was analyzed based on the objective and the research question. Descriptive statistics was used for the analysis of the data. Study findings revealed that the perception on most of the nursing care activities between the patients and nurses are different and only some are similar. The perception on medication time, availability of the nurses and cost of the hospital services is the only points where they agree with each other whereas, on every other major nursing activity, they have different perception. In conclusion, even when the nurses think that they are doing well with the patients, the patients have a completely different idea about it. The reason behind this maybe, that the patient have high expectation and are not qualified enough to evaluate the activities done technically. It indicated that the nursing care provider should emphasis towards the needs and wants of the patients while dealing with them.
